I’ve been feeling in a definite funk as of late and have decided the best way to work out of it, is to write some lighthearted material. During one of my regular hunts for good blogs and content, I stumbled across this gem by Kate from Confessions of a New Mummy. She did a piece on Vogue’s 73 questions and I felt like that would be the perfect start to changing my mood. If you haven’t already, check out her blog. There’s some great reads on there. Without further ado, here are “73 things you probably aren’t all that interested in but I found to be lots of fun to think about and write.”
1. What’s your favorite movie?
We’re already off to a hard start. I like many movies and I’d have to say my favorite really depends on my mood at the moment. For this particular moment, I suppose it would be The Big Lebowski. It’s a cult classic and you do not disrespect the dude.
2. Favorite movie in the past five years?
My favorite recent movie would probably be The Revenant, but I also just saw the Incredibles 2 and that was pretty good too.
3. Favorite Hitchcock film?
I’ve only ever seen Psycho, so I guess that’s my favorite from Hitchcock.
4. A book you plan on reading?
Currently, I am starting Jordan Peterson’s 12 Rules For Life. People give him a lot of hate, but I feel like much of what he says makes sense to me. So, we can always agree to disagree.
5. A book that you read in school that positively shaped you?
Hmm, this one is tough. I read a ton of literature in school, mostly on my own, as the curriculum was not that great, in my opinion. Many of the books I read in school I don’t even remember…that’s how much of an impact they made. I will say I really loved my science fiction/mythology course in high school.
6. Favorite TV show that’s currently on?
Don’t trip out, but we don’t even have regular television. Anything we watch comes from either Netflix, Hulu, or YouTube. But if I did have television, you bet your butt I would be watching both Shark Week and the Incredible Dr. Pol.
7. On a scale of one to ten how excited are you about life right now?
Maybe a 6. I tend to be ambivalent about most things in life. I get super excited when I get to see Bean learn new skills, and I’m excited about the trajectory of this blog, but on an average basis…yeah 6.
8. iPhone or Android?
Oh there is no question: Android forever.
9. Twitter or Instagram?
Twitter. I tend to dislike being in pictures and posting personal photos on the web…which is like the whole purpose of Instagram.
10. Who should EVERYONE be following right now?
Me. Not to toot my own horn, but…toot toot! Kidding. (But if you insist, hit me up @poepragmatic on twitter) Follow whatever makes you laugh and enjoy life. There’s too much other crap in life to stress about than what people say on social media.
11. What’s your favorite food?
Bread, hands down. Unfortunately, I don’t get to eat it anymore due to my keto lifestyle. You can read more about why I’m doing it and get a general idea of what it is here, if you’re interested.
12. Least favorite food?
Peas and anything too spicy. I can do a bit of spice, but if it makes my mouth burn too much, I get super annoyed.
13. What do you love on your pizza?
Cheese, cheese, cheese, pepperoni, cheese, mushrooms, onions, bell peppers, cheese.
14. Favorite drink?
Pepsi Zero Sugar, Unsweetened Brewed Iced Tea, Water…not necessarily in that order.
15. Favorite dessert?
Chocolate cake or brownies…in a glass of milk. No frosting or anything…just a brownie or plain chocolate cake submerged in milk and eaten with a spoon. Don’t judge until you’ve tried it, either, because I can hear you’re ‘ew’ from here. Do it!
16. Dark chocolate or milk chocolate?
Dark chocolate, typically, but who really cares? Chocolate is amazing.
17. Coffee or tea?
Oh tea, hands down. Coffee tastes like dirt. Disgusting.
18. What’s the hardest part about being a Mom?
Having to go back to work and leave your baby home. I would gladly take every poopy diaper, sleepless night, and screaming tantrum to be able to be home with my boy. I miss him terribly during the day.
19. What’s your favorite band?
This is the same as asking my favorite movie. It depends on how I feel at any given moment. I guess right now it would be The Gazette. They are a Japanese heavy rock band and not only are they talented and creative, I find the lead singer’s voice to be the perfect/ideal heavy rock voice. It’s gorgeous.
20. Favorite solo artist?
Eh, I don’t know about this one. I don’t really have a favorite solo artist that comes to mind. I tend to listen to entire bands more often than any solo artist.
21. Favorite song?
Again, I don’t know. It depends on the moment. Right this second, I’d go for something from the Shins.
22. If you could sing a duet with anyone, who would it be?
Someone who would complement my voice. Most likely a male singer and I find female and male combinations to have their separate strengths vs same gender combos.
23. If you could master one instrument, what would it be?
Guitar or piano. They are both beautiful to my ears.
24. If you had a tattoo, where would it be?
I will never get a tattoo because I would never be able to find something that I would never get bored with at some point. I guess I’m too fickle, but why make a permanent mark to regret it later?
25. To be or not to be?
To be is the only obvious choice. You cannot change life if you’re dead.
26. Dogs or cats?
Dogs, but only because Lino is horribly allergic to cats. If he wasn’t I’d have both.
27. Bird watching or whale watching?
While, I’ve never gone bird watching, I’ve been whale watching and it was phenomenal. Birds cannot even compare.
28. Best gift you’ve ever received?
My healthy child (as true as it is, that level of sappy kind of makes my stomach turn).
29. Best gift you’ve ever given?
Are we talking about a gift to myself?
Or are we talking about best gift I gave to my husband?

A bottle of wine and Fifty Shades of Grey DVD.
31. What’s your favorite board game?
The Game of Life
32. What’s your favorite country to visit?
I mean, I’ve only been to a few and I’d like to see more, but from the ones I’ve been to, I liked New Zealand. It was SO green and beautiful.
33. What’s the last country you visited?
34. What country do you wish to visit?
A bunch of the European countries. I’d love to see all the architecture and art from the old countries.
35. What’s your favorite color?
36. Least favorite color?
Pink. I really dislike it, for some reason.
Diamonds. Is this even a real question?
38. Heels or flats?
I absolutely love heels because they are so sexy, but I will only ever wear flats…because I prefer comfort and function over sexy.
39. Pilates or yoga?
Yoga…and only the stretching kind…none of that hard core, sweaty workout kind. I didn’t get this round body from workin’ out, ya know.
40. Jogging or swimming?
Neither, but if I had to choose: swimming…and again, the float in the pool with my margarita kind…not the laps across the pool kind. Also, I will stab you if you get my hair wet.
41. Best way to de-stress?
GAMING! I am the biggest gamer girl nerd. I also love to read and just do the netflix and chill thing.
42. If you had one superpower, what would it be?
I think flying would be pretty neat…or maybe being able to shapeshift into anything I wanted. I used to always think I’d want to read minds, and then I grew up and people started telling me what was on their minds. I’ve since decided we are a dreadfully boring species.
43. What’s the weirdest word in the English language?
“I” is the weirdest word in the English language. It is the representation of the self, and we could have used anything in our imagination to refer to ourselves. Language is almost limitless. Yet, we chose to use one letter of the alphabet. That, to me, is weird.
44. What’s your favorite flower?
I love orchids, but I have the blackest thumb on this planet (second in color only to my attitude when hungry). I could kill a plastic plant. So, I look at them in the stores or on photos instead of buying it to die a slow and miserable death.
45. When was the last time you cried?
The other day, actually. I teared up during a Disney movie. Pretty sure I still have those pregnancy hormones floating around in there. Yeah, let’s go with that.
46. Do you like your handwriting?
When I write neatly. When I write quickly, it’s pretty sloppy.
47. Do you bake?
I used to love baking. However, now I only bake holiday treats for family. I’ve gotten so lazy since Bean came around.
48. What is your least favorite thing about yourself?
I am very critical at times and my cynicism can really mess with my perceptions of reality. Some days I love it. Other days, I know it pushes people away.
49. What is your most favorite thing about yourself?
When I set my mind to something, I will do it. No matter the odds. However, I may not always be the most time efficient when I do it. I love me some procrastinating.
50. Who do you miss most?
I have lost quite a few family members over the years, but not many of them have been super close. While I would say I generally miss my relatives who’ve passed, I wouldn’t want to see them suffering as they were beforehand. I wouldn’t wish that kind of misery on someone because of my own selfishness.
That being said, I find I do most of my missing when I am away from my son. I miss him terribly when I go to work in the day and would give anything to be at home with him. It’s also why I started blogging. A pipe dream to maybe one day get to be that full time mother I long to be.
51. What are you listening to right now?
My husband playing a video game while I sit here on the couch typing away. The television is often background noise at my house. I’m just stoked we’re not watching Shrek for the 46th times today.

Clean clothing or the smell of cleaner. Like, that lemon fresh scent, or the scent of soap. Basically, anything that smells clean, I love.
53. Who was the last person you talked to on the phone?
My husband while on the way home from work. I have an hour long commute to work. So, I often call and catch up on the day while I drive home.
54. Who was the last person you sent a text to?
A co-worker who I teasingly chastised for trying to run me over in the parking lot on the way home. All out of love.
55. A sport you wished you could play?
Ew. Sports. The only sport I used to enjoy regularly was bowling. I wouldn’t mind being good at that again, but I can live without it, really.
56. Hair color?
Before or after hair dye? Hah. I’m a natural dark brunette, but I swear there’s more gray each time I wake up. I’m salt and pepper now in the front part of my head. So, I age with dignity and grace…and I dye it all black.
57. Eye color?
Blue, greenish, grayish…depending on what I’m wearing.
58. Scary film or happy endings?
Happy endings all the way. If you would have asked me this as a teen, I would have always chosen the scary flick. As I’ve aged, I guess I’ve gotten less tolerant of scary films. I generally dislike getting startled in movies nowdays.
59. Favorite season?
Winter! We gave 2 seasons where I live: summer and winter. Then we occasionally have 1 or 2 weeks of spring and fall, if we’re lucky. Our winter is typically very mild and the summers are brutal. I hate the heat with every fiber of my being. So, I would choose cold ANY DAY over heat. You can always add layers. You cannot unzip your skin.
60. Three people alive or dead that you would like to have dinner with?
Okay, so I’m going to tweak this question a bit. I’d like to dine with Jordan Peterson and Carl Jung together so I could listen in on their discussions about reality. I find that fascinating. On a separate dinner, I’d like to dine with Joe Manganiello, because he’s a hot piece of ass and I’d like to oogle him from across the table. Gotta have balance.
61. Hugs or kisses?
From who? Hubby and son? Hugs. From anyone else? Don’t touch me and in fact, you’re too close to me as it is.
62. Rolling Stones or the Beatles?
Beatles, but only their really drugged out stuff. I think that was their best work.

California, USA baby…and no, I’ve never met a famous person.
64. What is the farthest you have been from home?
Australia and New Zealand.
65. Sweet or savory?
Savory mostly, but I enjoy the occasional sweet.
66. Lipstick or lipgloss?
Unflavored gloss only. I abhor stuff on my face and lips unless absolutely necessary.
67. What book have you read again and again?
I’ll admit, I’ve read a few cheap romance novels more than once.
68. Favorite bedtime story?
I’m not picky. I’ll read whatever is available or whatever is picked out…as long as it’s not a Spanish book. In that case, Dad would be reading it.
69. What would be the title of your autobiography?
The Incredibly Underwhelming and Average American: Poe
70. Favorite sound?
My son’s voice, be it laughing, talking, or making odd noises. It is sheer delight to my ears. I can’t get enough. *sigh* It’s like new baby smell.
71. Favorite animal?
Giraffe. It holds special meaning to me and Lino as an old inside joke.
72. Who is your girl crush?
I don’t have any girl crushes. I’m pretty boring and am somewhat of a hermit.
73. Last photograph you took?
My son. I never really used my phone camera before he was born. Now, my phone is like almost completely full of pictures of him. It’s crazy. I never tire of seeing his cute face and poses.
